Riverdale star lands next lead movie role

Former Riverdale star Skeet Ulrich has joined the cast of upcoming thriller Salvation, alongside stars from Sons of Anarchy and Okja.

The cast includes the star of Amazon Prime’s I Know What You Did Last Summer star Ashley Moore, Sons of Anarchy‘s Theo Rossi, Okja‘s Devon Bostick, CSI: NY and Black Beauty‘s Claire Forlani and star of The Vanished Thomas Jane.

Ulrich played Jughead Jones’ father FP Jones (short for Forsythe Pendleton Jones II) in the Archie Comics adaptation Riverdale, but he’s also had main roles in #FreeRayshawn, Law & Order: LA, stop-motion series Robot Chicken and post-apocalyptic drama Jericho.

The new film marks a reunion for Ulrich and Thomas Jane, who previously worked together on Robot Chicken. Jane will also be reuniting with Claire Forlani, who he worked with on The Last Time I Committed Suicide, a drama based on a letter from beat poet Neal Cassady to Jack Kerouac, also starring Keanu Reeves and Adrien Brody.

According to Deadline, in the new thriller tells the story of “a troubled foster child is given a final chance to make good when she is sent to live with a kind couple in rural Tennessee.

“She soon learns however that her foster family is not quite what they seem as she is drawn into their world of snake-handling worship where even holy people can do evil things.”

Mackenzie Munro will direct, having previously worked on 2021 TV series Thick House and The Shady Brunch.

Alex Runnels is on board to write the script, his first screenplay since Killing Animals, starring Diary of a Wimpy Kid‘s Zachary Gordon, Pretty Little Liars‘ Cody Christian and 13 Reasons Why‘s Timothy Granaderos.

Little else has been confirmed about the film just yet, including a production schedule and release date, so watch this space for more.

Ulrich was promoted to series regular on Riverdale in its second season, but quit the show in 2020 because he claimed during an Instagram Live session that he was “bored creatively” and wanted to pursue “other creative opportunities”, which seems to include Salvation.

His departure came as the fourth season wrapped early because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but he returned for the first three episodes of season 5, before leaving for good.
