Emily Blunt is in talks to star alongside her A Quiet Place Part II co-star Cillian Murphy in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming movie Oppenheimer.

The film is a biopic about physicist J Robert Oppenheimer (played by Murphy), the scientist who ran the Manhattan Project that led to the invention of the atomic bomb.

Blunt will play Katherine ‘Kitty’ Vissering Oppenheimer, J Robert Oppenheimer’s wife, Deadline reports.

Oppenheimer is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book by Kai Bird and Martin J Sherwin, titled American Prometheus: The Triumph And Tragedy Of J Robert Oppenheimer.

Nolan will write and direct the movie, while his creative partner and wife Emma Thomas is also on board to produce.

Dame Donna Langley, chairman of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, said: “Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas’ films have shattered the limits of what cinematic storytelling can achieve.

“We are thrilled to be working alongside them on this exceptional and extraordinary project and are grateful for their shared passion and commitment to the theatrical experience,” she added.

Oppenheimer is Nolan’s first film with Universal, after he ended his long association with Warner Bros.

Nolan had criticised Warner Bros’ decision to release its 2021 movies simultaneously in cinemas and on streaming service HBO Max, arguing his belief that it “makes no economic sense”.

After reprising her lead role in A Quiet Place Part II, Blunt was last seen in Disney’s Jungle Cruise alongside Dwayne Johnson and Jack Whitehall.

Murphy, meanwhile, has been working on the sixth and final series of Peaky Blinders for the BBC.

The movie is also the latest collaboration between Murphy and Nolan, who have previously teamed up on Dunkirk, Inception and Batman Begins.

Oppenheimer is scheduled for release on July 21, 2023.
